Hi

i am new here. i found this forum by google.

My location is in Germany - so please excuse my sure bad english :)

I hope it is ok to add my problem to this place? If not please don't hit me I will open a new thread in the right place (please tell me where and how) - thanks!!!

I have get the Galaxy Saturn from a very old friend, who died 4 years ago, from his wive now, and I was very happy to get this station.

But I had to find out that it is sending only with 0,5 Watts and the recieving acoustic signal is also very bad. His wife can not tell me what happened, it is also a very long time now and I don't want to ask her to much, as she is very sad about the lost her man (me too, was a good man!)

When I push the TX, the Pwr. display (needle?) goes up a bit
It changes position a bit when I turn the RX power in cw/ccw direction
but no full power (10 Watts it should be)

I have the schematic / manual here but I don't know where to start my search. It is all soooo long time ago when I was on CB and on electronics like that :(

It's time to get back on CB :D

First I was thinking it is the Amps-transistors. But there is a very very big heat sink in the machine ... and the RX audio is also very bad.
I am not sure about all this and before i start wild changing parts and destroy something, I will like to get help from others who know what to do.

I will be very happy if you can take me on your hand and give me a step by step check!

I have a multimeter (AC/DC volts, amperes, ohms and diodes and for check traces, ..... also an other device for frequency counter, solder - but NO oszi!)

Hope, you can help me! If it is legal and some one needs the schematic I can give a link to it, so I can give back a little help for others

Very thank you,

the radio should produce full power when modulating , not when deadkeying .
also , never trust the built in meter . get an external meter and jumper .
what is the swr of the antenna and where how is it mounted ?
are you feeding the correct voltage to the radio ?
is your coax in good shape ?

You didn't tell us anything about the antenna you're testing this with. If the radio is not putting out full power AND the receive is bad, I'd start with the antenna and/or feedline.

You also need an external watt meter of some kind to see how much power the radio is putting out. Get an external watt/swr meter combo and start there. I wouldn't touch anything inside the radio until you've done that.
