Getting in trouble?

I am new to the cb and was wondering, after reading through some topics here, if there is anyway someone with a cb can get into trouble with the fcc? If you can talk across a couple states with a mobile cb, is that bad? I don't want to start a big argument like in other threads just like to know kinda what the rules are. I went to the fcc website but got lost in it trying to find what the rules are. Thanks

I agree, talk and enjoy, conditions will warrant how far you can talk.

And isnt it great how are goverment "organizes" rules and regulations to make them simple to find/understand?

PART 95 is the PERSONAL RADIO SERVICES (CB)

Start around 95.401

The FCC rules are now being enforced by the local police agencies. I believe operators getting caught with a 11 meter amplifier are now subject to arrest and forfeiture of the illegal equipment and/or vehicle. Police are now starting to use "CB antenna check points" where they flag you over and check your equipment. I think the fine for a peaked out radio is $100 plus forfeiture. At some point habitual CB offenders become Felons.
Be careful....they are out to get you.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!
I have yet to see a City Police Dept that will even begin to put this much effort in CB......unless it is in A dream that CW had...LOL

(sorry Jerry, just had to say it)

I saw a CB Amplifier felony arrest in Georgia on the COPS tv program.
They profiled the suspect's SUV because of the Monkey made antenna.....they send in the 2879 sniffing K-9. A 16 pill and a 5 pill Davemade were found.

That law has been in effect since Bill Clinton, I think.
Local police have no idea about the FCC rules or anything else.
Unless you are some how interfering with emergency
communications, nothing will happen.

No local enforcement can begin until individual governments adopt necessary legislation of their own. Then, according to the law, CB owners with complaints against local enforcement decisions will be able to appeal to the FCC.

The Clinton enacted law has been on the books for a long time.
The deal is Most Local PD/Sheriff have yet to get the "necessary legislation of their own" unless it is in a area were there is a large enough problem present to warrant the attention.
It is well known to the guys that have been around this hobby a bit, that if they get enough complaints or you’re interfering with Public or Commercial service, they’ll come after you.
If you are in the middle of town, 8/10 blocks away from City Hall and the Local PD, and running a radio/sweep-tube = dirty signal set up it will get you the attention you are craving very quickly. I don`t want you to think the FCC doesn’t enforce the law on illegal CB operation, they do. They also have a full Plate, and only so much man-power can be alloted.
And the same can be said of the allready over worked/underpaid Local cops that are just trying to get the "real" bad guys.
The rules that Happy_Hamer posted "are" the rules.

Some Of us think the rules need to be changed to reflect what the service has become. Even if no one wants to admit it, CB is still a useful tool, but it has grown into a hobby as well.
In fact at one time not only was it a hobby, it was an American craze.

On any weekend that the band is open, you can hear 100`s of stations around the country working DX on AM or SSB just for contacts.
Sounds like a hobby to me.

Welcome to So.Cal !! You rip somebodies TV up and the cops are called out and see it with there own eye's and hear your mouth, they warn you once ,if they have to come out one more time , you will and I repete ,you will be finded with disturbing the peace. Use common sence and watch your a$$e$. For those of you in my parts whom think the local law can't do anything ? You got another thing coming. Peace ..... I suppose it just depends on where one lives and what cops your going to be dealing with ?
