Getting ready to get my 'ticket', what radios should I be looking at?

I know I will get my 'tech', but I might try for the General as well.

That being said.

I was think about an HF rig and a 2/440 rig

however I have NO idea what to get, esp when I plan to purchase things used.

I have been considering Kenwood as they get great reviews and can usually be had for a good price point for what they have to offer...

any thing I shouldn't buy?

You can buy good used HF rigs at a decent price. I'm running an IC707 which I like, good basic rig without the frills. I think for simplicity sake don't do an all in one radio to start. On the base as well I have an Icom HT hooked up to a homebrew 1/2 ground plane that I can hit any repeater that I want. In the mobile, I have a 2 metre and a 10 metre radio. There is not much 70cm around my parts so for me its out.
The problem I foresee with an all in one radio is if you want to chew the rag on 2 metres with the locals as well as cruise the HF bands, its a bit of a pain.
