Dumbconssion: That nagging brain cell killing headache that is the result of being exposed to morbidly stupid people that love to argue about subject matter they know absolutely nothing about.

It must be very dark where your head is:

Is explanation really necessary?

Ghost Watts: The result of an inferior technician “Tuning Up” a radio for maximum wattage output by destroying the harmonic suppression circuits. Usually results in a high peak at 54 MHz in which the technician says don't pay attention to the spectrum analyzer peak at 54 MHz, it's not real.

Think what he is referring to, is that by turning the 54mhz trap coil -for max watt output- will yield watts that don't even get heard on 27mhz ('CB') band. The 'ghost watts' are read by a watt meter and it appears to be on CB band; but they are not.

I agree that one would think by now in this internet info age, that this practice would have stopped by now. But apparently some still have the head and ears hid 'where the sun don't shine' and refuse to get that message . . .

Yes, I understood what he meant and that’s why I posted the pic of someone’s handy work destroying the trap coil. I see that a lot, almost daily.

You’re right, heads way up there. Deep. I don’t understand but I do. It’s the meter worshippers, they wanna see that meter fly to the right or they don’t think they’re getting their money’s worth.

You have a choice in this business, you either do the work correctly and get what you get or you do that type of work and the good work. Cause if you don’t do it and get that money, someone else will. I just can’t bring myself to do it though and then they praise the other guy for butchering up their radio.

But, you can’t tell them anything.

I worked for one radio shop and they wanted me to do those Whack Packs and I flat refused. When I explained to the owner what was really happening and showed him with my spectrum analyzer they quit doing them. They did not have any test equipment except for a cheap Sears DVM.

Well add more words then. You created one, make some more. We still don’t have a list, yet.

Probably so but not likely. Not around here anyway. But I see it often. I’m pretty sure I know who is doing it, he’s notorious for TR32 modifications. I’m notorious for putting them back.
