Barring a Blizzard tomorrow....600 miles round trip to go get my new toy...

BTI LK-2000
Single 4-1000a

circa 1966-69
Has the small B+ supply 3000vdc/1.5a....

Hope to upgrade supply to 4000vdc+ and change PA deck to GS-35B final tube....:thumbup1:
This will stay as-is for now though and do some further upgrades to the L4B first however...
All the Best:thumbup:
BJ

Good deal BJ.

If I remember right you have that big transformer, 4500VDC on a full wave bridge at 2 amps or something like that.

That 4X1 will scream with that type of voltage on it.

Enjoy the new toy will look forward to hearing you on 75 meters.

That one is the second generation, with the cooling tower. Just got rid of mine, I did the GS35b setup in it myself. Got it deck only, built P.S. from scratch. They came with the 3-1000 tube.

Rich: Yes, this is a later version. The manual I am getting contains the upgrade info for the PS and the small mod to go from 3 x 1....to 4 x 1...
This also has the big bandswitch and cooling upgrades already(as you noticed).
I am getting this from a VERY Good builder in WV.

Who said it was Solid as-is...He said it screams for the GS-35B upgrade...
Filament xformer change...drop the tube socket for the GS-35B where the 4 x 1 is and a few small tap changes and it's good to go....

Wavrider is correct I have a xformer just waiting to be used(and should fit) inside the console base along with the cap and HV bridge rectifier(Henry style)....should make it....purrr at legal limit:whistle:

This will all happen after I do some work to the L4B...
New solid state relay (to remove the 240vac off the front panel switches)
Solid state Bias control
New set of lungs and maybe a vacuum T/R relay....

Then start on the BTI....
Good to know I have another brain to pick when the time comes....:D
All the Best

KEN: Maybe have it in-line Sunday morning...dependes on the travel time Sat!:confused1:

The 3kv at 1.5 amp would sure make the L4B purr.

I have been searching for a decent 3-1000 to play with in the homebrew 4X1 I built.

I will have the rig on Sunday Gary hope to hear you if the trip is not to bad.

Work has me busy during the week and the kids on the wekends. WEather been nice so every chance I get I am on the bike riding so no amp in the shack here yet.

Be safe on the drive.

Were you able to make the trip? Looks like a very nice amp.

Yes Crusher, I did make the trip 636 mile round trip....About 12 hours including a nice visit with the seller.
The Tube is the 8166/4-1000a Eimac....Looks new.
This amp from what I have been able figure out is truly the RF-2000 deck(late version BTI made) but has the LK-2000 supply(3000v/no load).
This as you can see from the Pic's is the floor model....
However upon inspection when getting it home....The separation cables were coiled up inside the lower cabinet!
I do have to do a little cleaning and replace one of the Jackson Brothers ball drives on the load cap.($20 for a new one)
The bandswitch is in typical condition for most BTI's(20m section smoked) but seller had a spare model 86....to fix that....
I will likely upgrade to the bigger supply with FW bridge and HV single filter cap(doing away with the voltage doubler and cap string).
This will bring the deck to legal limit capacity.:D

When I get the ball drive this week and open the deck up again, I'll take some PICs...So everyone here can watch the restoration....
What a beautiful tube!:w00t:...I love glass!;)
All the Best
BJ

Anybody have a filter cap?.... 20-30mF at 6-7k VDC
