I'm using the Comet SBB-5NMO dual bander. Seems to work pretty good for me.

If you just need a two meter antenna the Hustler CG-144 is very good, 5/8 over a 1/4 wave, about 5db gain, 6 mhz bandwidth,3/8 x 24 thread so it will fit any standard "whip"type mount and it will also work fairly well on ten meters were it is tuned for 2 meters! About 7` tall and run around $32.00 for the whip w/o mount.

I have the icom290D 2mtr allmode set up again mobile, does anyone out there recomend (and why) any good mobile antennas ?

I am using an old 5/8th wave on the tri mag on the roof at the moment, and would even consider a dual band such as those by comet and diamond. The SG7900, SG7500, SG2000, NR22L all caught my eye, any comments appreciated.

Do you have a Wilson "Little Wil" sitting around?

Take same and carefully peel off plastic covering magnet assembly. Use 1/2 wrench and disassemble magnet assembly from coil, and then coil from yoke of antenna.

Remove nut from "top" of coil. (Nut with silicone sealant around it from the factory). "Uncoil" the coil until it is completely off the plastic coil support, but still attached to the feedline through the little hole and guide assemby on the bottom of the coil.

Run the copper (the uncoiled coil) straight 'up' the coil support and wrap it once around the stud on the top of the coil support. Attach nut back onto top of coil. Cut off excess copper. (for reference, you'll now have about 2" of copper running straight up through the coil support and attached to the stud on top).

Re-assemble the magnet/"coil"/themoplastic assembly, tighten all nuts/bosses and then re-attach the thin plastic magnet "cover" on the bottom.

For Dual-band use: Trim existing whip ("stinger") to ~17.5 Inches and re-attach to base. This makes your antenna a 5/8 wave at 70cm and 1/4 wave at 2 meters.

For 2m use: Find/Make/Fabricate a whip about 45" and attach to base. This makes a 5/8 wave at 2 meter frequencies.

Works pretty darn good, and most of you probably have these parts laying around.
