I just acquired a few more awesome shortwave radios. The closest place to ground my radio is 15-20' away. what can i do? Read somewhere i can get about 200+' of wire and use that as a ground? but any size of wire at that length is not very cost effective:blink: Why is it when i connected the shield of the feed-line to ground on the radio it drops out on RX ? but if i run the shield of the coax to the + side of the antenna terminal it doubles the signal but also doubles the static being received.

Ight, I went ahead and bought a ground rod....
It is about 5' from the radio had to really organize the shack to be close to the ground im using rg213 shielding as the wire for ground to radio here is a photo:

Why do you start a thread with a question and then a short time later close it? You do that frequently. Leave it up for others who may have the same question to see and give others the chance to answer.

When just the center conductor is connected without the shield the entire length of coax acts as an antenna as well increasing signal but also picking up more interference from nearby electronics. When you attach the shield it shields the cable blocking the interference but also making the effective length of the antenna shorter thereby causing a drop in signal.

Ok so, I just made the coax grnd to center and attached it to my ant input, my new grounding I installed is attached to the grnd terminal on the radio. I can say after adding a real ground all the radios seem to cut back on rfi and working pretty darn good !
