Why do you start a thread with a question and then a short time later close it? You do that frequently. Leave it up for others who may have the same question to see and give others the chance to answer.

When just the center conductor is connected without the shield the entire length of coax acts as an antenna as well increasing signal but also picking up more interference from nearby electronics. When you attach the shield it shields the cable blocking the interference but also making the effective length of the antenna shorter thereby causing a drop in signal.
