Hands free Head-Sets

Ever use one, or know anyone who has. Was wondering about the quality. Not the Bluetooth just hands free, Like H&Y sells etc. I had a friend who pluged headphones into the speaker jack and when he keyed up he almost blew out his eardrumb. I can use head phones on my cobra external speaker with built in talk back and it works good. Tried to use the talk-back and it don't work with my 2950 (has 2 cables one for ext speaker and one for pa jack)
probally works with some other radios! I guess for 25.00 to 30.00 bucks they work ok but would like to know anyone who has tried one.

About 5 years ago I found had purchased some old stock headsets from the late 90's and they were really good quality, they actually worked okay but even so they were still annoying to use. It was really hard to set them at the right levels for voice activation and they the audio quality wasn't great compared to a good stock microphone.

I've used some of the PTT headsets which work fine but the hands free ones are not on my list of things to ever use again.

I have one of these that works remarkably well for the price. Not true hands free though.

Iguess that is what I am looking at Hands-free but still wired to the mic jack with a press to talk switch, I will most likely just get a better set of head phones and a stero to mono adpter to plug into my cobra speaker.

It sounds like what you are looking for is a VOX circuit. They can be utilized in several ways, wired or wireless.

I guess I misunderstood what's considered "hands free". None of the headsets in the attached links are 'hands-free', they just eliminate having to hold a microphone in your hand. You still have to be able to press a PTT in some way.
