hello all,

i have been a little busy of late..

anyway i got my 12 element 1.25 meter & dual polarity 9 element 2 meter antenna..plus will rearrange my 16 element for 70cm..

so since i am going to put these up & due to the frequency's

and we all know loss adds up quickly there..

i will finally get to installing my Andrews Heliax LDF5-50A..

so any of you who are familiar in using this stuff...

is it really needed to go & get the specific prep tools to put the ends on...

what do you think...

Thanks

That would depend. How handy are you? I have installed many connectors on LDF4-50 half inch heliax and also on LDF7-50 the 1 5/8 stuff and one on 3 inch heliax. Now that was a real pain. All you really need is a sharp knife, fine toothed hack saw, ruler or tape measure, and a high powered soldering gun for the center piece.A small file to get rid of the burrs is good also.I think the center is soldered like the LDF4-50 is.The bigger stuff is all pressure fit and clamped. There are installation tools and reemers made to do it and they do make it a bit easier but they are not 100% necessary.Have fun.I know I did with the three runs of LDF4-50 I have for 2m,6m and a tribander 10-20m.

It would depend what type and model number of fitting you are installing.Andrew should have the installation instruction on their website.I only ever installed the big 1 5/8 or 3 inch EIA connectors with a "bullet" and flange connector.Try www.andrew.com and look for your connector number.
