has anyone tried Texas Ranger 696 F base?

i was just wondering if anyone has tried the ranger 696 base yet? i haven't heard one on the air.is it a good unit or just a cheap board with the Ranger name to sell it? 73's from VA.

It's a Cobra 148/2000 in a Galaxy cabinet. If you like a 2000, you'll love a 696.

It does have the RCI 8719 for a PLL so it is similar to a 2000.
 
Similar, slightly. I own both. Know the radios, and boards inside and out. These are not the same radio at all, save for some like components. They are all 3 great radios, but as I said...the source of the original answer was considered. I love my 696 and use it daily.
 
It is a little bit of a silly answer when you read it now. Used 2000's are probably going for more today than a used 696. However, I know for a fact some of the things I've said 7 years ago (or maybe 7 months ago) would make me blush. :blush:
 
I would shelf my 2000 permanently for my 696. Far better radio. The 2000 was what it was, and was the best in its time. Still one of the all time best. However it has been knocked off of its throne by a few radios since. The 2000 will always be a staple radio for me, but it was passed a long time ago. This is simple fact when it comes to features, expandability, and quality. Only stubborn nostalgia, and people who wish to drive the already overpriced 2000's up would say otherwise. I do however heartily agree with, that if you like the 2000, you will love the 696. I know my post came way after the fact. I just love it when I see complete misinformation.

I know right HAHA!. Sorry I wont be selling any of the 3 of them. Didn't say I didn't like them. Just that they aren't the tops any more. I was actually cruising the old post looking for something about the 696 when I found it. Wasnt looking to pick in particular. Like I said, I just had too. Bad info, and coming form that source. Too easy.
