Heathkit HP-23a power supply and the SB-102

So I bought an SB-102 , which didn't come with an HP-23 power supply , or their connecting cord . I ordered an HP-23B power supply , and I also ordered the 11 pin connecting cord separately , because the power supply also didn't have the cord with it either .

Now the cord shows up unassembled , and without any instructions .... and the instructions from the manuals for the SB-102 , and the HP-23B both list multiple ways to assemble the cord .

So I have no idea which instructions to follow to wire it up .This is what I see at the jacks on the back of the Power Supply and the Radio .


Power Supply

1 Bias - 130v - Green
2 Ground - Fil Common - Black
3 +LV - +300v - Orange
4 +HV - +800v - Yellow
5 No Connect
6 12v - Fil - Red
7 Ground - White
8 No Connect
9 AC Switch - 120v - Brown
10 Common Switch - 120v - Blue
11 No Connect

Radio

1 Bias - 130v - Green
2 Ground - Fil Common - Black
3 +LV - +300v - Orange
4 +HV - +800v - Yellow
5 Ground - Shield
6 12v - Fil - Red
7 Ground - White
8 No Connect
9 AC Switch - 120v - Brown
10 Common Switch - 120v - Blue
11 N.O. Relay

There's no White wire for pin 7 in the cord that I ordered either .

Does anyone have any idea what the wiring for the SB-102 to an HP-23B should be ?? Looking at the back of them , they almost match up , but not completely .

Not really a mismatch. Pin 5 on the radio end is the shield around another wire. Doesn't say which one. Probably only needs to be ground at one end. A coax needs to be grounded at both ends. but simple shielding does not.

Pin 11 at the radio socket is to key an external amplifier. No need for the power supply to have a connection to this pin.

All the truly functional pins are a match.

Number 5 wouldn't be an issue if one of the wires had shielding ... but none of them had any . I wired it all up and left pins 5 , 8 , and 11 a no connect . There were 11 pins and 8 wires in the cord that came with it , and none of them were shielded . So I figured that was the only possible solution .

I wired it all up , and listened to a few Nets on it last night . Now to get a mic properly wired up for it . It has a Collins/Drake styled mic plug on it . I wired an Astaic to it using the Collins wiring and it didn't key up . I'll get it figured out today .... lol

At least I got it up and running .

That's how it says in the Astatic wiring book to wire that mic up to the Collins and the Drake , so that's how I wired it up ... and it didn't work .

That plug for mic is a MOD

...the original is the 2 pin listed above... Shown below is original style

So most likely either "experiment" with hook-up or open it up (rig)and check how it's wired.
That rig needs a "HIGH" impedance mic (again) unless more "mods" were done.
