My Madison is 2 1/2 watts on am which is where I want it but, only 6 pep on ssb. I know I need to adjust the VR11 for 12-14 on ssb. I don't know why but even with a lighted magnifying glass i can't locate it. The board is fairly clean with no gunk/tobacco build up but I just can't see any of the identifiying numbers. Im assuming there's just enough build up of whatever will make it impossible to see the pot identification numbers but not enough to make look dirty. Is it possible these numbers have faded? Anyway, is there someone who can post a picture of a uniden Madison/8719 board showing exactly where the VR11 is? I've found some pictures online showing the VR11 on a 2000 board but it's not an exact match and It's not helping locate it on the Madison. I found an excellent tec in p.a. but I would hate to have to send it to him just for that. With my luck I will send it out for this simple fix and it will fall off the back of the postal truck and get run over by a peter built.

sorry, mines an upd858, but I'll give you a bump.
I certainly wouldn't ship it out because you can't find a VR. try having someone else look through it. doesn't need to be a tech. teens usually have pretty good eyes, try offering one 10$ if they can find it.

VR11 should be at the rear of the board about center and almost in front of the final.about 1 inch from the back of the case

I hear you. I refuse to send it out. It's unfortunate. I've only been using ssb for about a month (maybe 2 hours total). After getting back on

I purchased the service manual. Only problem is the manual is for the uniden Madison and the stalker xx. The one color page that identifies the VR11 dosent seem to match the Madison's board. As I mentioned there s absolutely no identifiying numbers on the board at all. If Thay are there, thay are certainly invisible to the human eye. My eye site is ok and as I mentioned I used a strong magnifying glass and still can't see any identifiying numbers of any kind anywhere on the whole board. It's almost as if someone hade gone in there with an eraser. I finally found something I'm comfortable doing and I can't located the darn VR11. Thanks much.

I just looked at the sams manual and it shows VR11 just as I told you. center of the board left to right. then go back towards the final and it is under a bunch of wires that go to the main board. vr2 is just to the front of VR11 and just a little to its left.

see if I can get the drawing to load.let me know if you get the file I loaded for you.
Sonoma thanks so much. Between your description and the manual you've got me (download successful) it will be done. I purchased the same manual but looking at the page that shows the VR11 on my phones screen makes the visualization of the it much easier for me. Most people on wwdx know I'm serverly disabled. On Tuesday I will have a friend remove the cover. I'm 100% positive the ssb wattage will be at 12 watts within minutes. I can visualize the board and VR11 in my minds eye. I remember looking around the board last time, I'm not sure why I didn't see it but I can actually see it but, I certainly see it now. It sometimes gets frustrating because if I could remove the cover I'd be on ssb in 5 minutes. I will let you know how it worked out. Thanks again, Big time.

this should help you. the next to last page is the layout of the parts and the very last page is the picture of the page. you can see where the wires cover the VR11 and its location. its hard to find with normal vision. my eyes are bad now and it is hard to find if I did not have the layout.. looks as if a few others wanted it also. so 7 have downloaded it.

Sonoma my friend wasn't able to stop by but, he will be here on Sunday. He will the remove the cover. Once again I want to thank you. The diagram you've supplied along with your very specific directions will no doubt make it possible to raise the output to the 12-14 watts needed to drive my amp properly on ssb. I will notify you of the outcome. Thanks again.
