Hello everyone,

anybody willing to help I am very thankful for, and can possibly help you with something as well.

sorry to be a such a noob. I am 21 i just bought a book on HAM radio, and i want to learn as much as i can.

Ultimately i'm looking to have a mobile or handheld, or something i can run from my home and take with me if i move.

I'd like to be able to communicate across the world, pick up all waves all over the world, and pick up satellites and utilize those.

I have a good size budget for this... will be researching for a couple weeks and then purchasing everything i need. i already have a really good computer system iif that can utilized in anyway.

looking for as much info and suggestions and resources as possible.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH... LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING STARTED AND BEING AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THIS FORUM :)

have a nice day.

If your goal is talking around the world, you are usually restricted to 1.8 - 30MHz (HF) range.
For that, handheld is not an option. VHF/UHF will get you satellites and local.
Mobile is marginal at lower frequencies.

If ability to take it with you when you move is primary concern, any base-station HF radio is easy enough to move. The most important item is antenna. A small HF antenna is expensive and narrowband. A long dipole can be cheap, but long for HF, so cheap you could leave it be when you move.

thanks for message will research !
just learning about UHF and all ...

So im thinking a Kenwood TS-2000 as a base, and now im looking for an antenna...

and now i have to find a mobile solution as well...

Take a look at the Icom IC-7000 for mobile. It's HF/VHF/UHF. It's small enough that it can fit in most vehicles.

The Kenwood TS-2000 is a decent rig but there are rigs with better receivers. If you really want an all-in-one type of rig, I'd look at the Icom IC-9100. It's more money, but it's also a lot more rig. You mentioned that budget wasn't a problem ;). If an HF-only rig interests you, I'd spend some serious time looking at the Elecraft K3.

Of course, you really need to plan your antenna situation. An HF antenna for mobile use is something that can be quite a project to get working well...but it's fun too.

What vehicle are you installing this in?

The Yaesu 857D is also a nice all around all band all mode radio that you can look into. My wife runs one mobile and Ive ran it in the house their pretty nice and reliable radios.
