Im rebuilding an older Ameritron AL-84 amplifier I am wondering if these parts can be found or safely be substituted because I looked on EBAY and couldnt find them. First part is a .01 MF 50 Volt Capacitor and the second part is a 7.5 Volt 10 Watt Zener diode. also is there anybody reputable or any place that can be trusted ot thats honest to get a matched set of 4 6MJ6 or a matched set of 4 6LQ6 tubes?

I'd be careful with Surplus Sales. That page shows tons of new tubes in boxes and great prices on sweep tubes. There are a few tubes listed as used and then there are a few more listed as new.......what does that make the other 90% of the listed tubes? New or used? That should be made clear before the sale, not after.

Also, if you happen to purchase a defective product from this company plan on having to fight like hell to get a refund. You'll be told they test everything before they sell it. That's not even remotely possible with the used inventory they have. Needless to say he sent me a transformer with an open primary and it took a week of consistent badgering on the phone and through email to get him to make good on a $35 part.

Insisting that I hooked it up wrong when the first thing I did was try and locate a primary winding with my ohm meter to find it was not existent. It wasn't until I mentioned I would share my experience with a large group of his customers on 75 meters that he took responsibility. Watch him with both eyes and thoroughly inspect anything you buy immediately after receiving it.

I have also heard of a lot of problems with Surplus Sales of Nebraska. Lots of problems if the product is not as advertised or defective. The prices are also way out of whack on most items. I honestly have to wonder how they stay in business.

If you have some fabrications skills, why not consider replacing the sweep tubes with one GI7B Russian ceramic tube similar to the online modification for the Dentron GLA-1000? Using new smaller caps I'd build the voltage doubler and relocate it to the back right corner. Then you could mount the GI7B horizontally so that its chimney lines up with the fan on the back. The Dremmel tool and a wine bottle make excellent chimneys for these tubes, plus you get to drink the wine.

Have you tried the ameritron website. They sell parts right on the site. Nice people there very helpful.

when you call ask for Rob. He is extremely knowledgeable and more then happy to help people. He spent a good 30 mins with me on the phone a few different times. Only downfall is that their phone is busy a lot. Just keep trying and trying until you get through.

They are only open monday-friday

Hi Captain, They only have one phone number only one line. Not sure why but it makes it hard to get through.

I had a al1200 which a guy started to convert to a al1500. The guy had made a real mess of it. I had to call rob to get some info that was missing on the al1500 drawing on their website.

The completed amp can be seen at amprepairguy.com

Maybe they do only have one number but most businesses have sequential equivalent numbers. IE if you called Ameritron at 662-323-8211 and that line was busy it would automatically transfer to another number like 8212 for instance and if that number was busy it would dump to another number etc. Those other numbers are never published BTW so as to not cause confusion about what number to call. Some may have only two or three lines while others may have a dozen or more depending on the size of the business and volume of calls.I can;t imagine sales and technical support all being served bu just a single incoming phone line.
