Help with propper tower grounding ideas needed. I havent grounded this newer setup yet and I am really up there so the nervouse season approaches. I was told that because my tower is pretty much to tight to the house I have to run 3 7 foot ground rods 6-8 foot apart out in front of the tower with thick copper wire coming straight out from each leg to its old ground rod then the Ground rods wil have to be connected or (tied together) This is also supposed to also help with neutralizing static build up thus cutting back on lighting strikes anyother ideas?? I have to do this ASAP seeings how storm season is now here.

A lot of it depends on just where you live, but I'd take a good look at the NEC (National Electrical Codes) about tower grounding. You have the right idea but there's more to it than just what you said. Safety grounding for lightning, etc, is one of those things that you can't really over do, more is almost always better. That NEC is the minimum. You are the only limit to the maximum. So, do the minimum and then quit when you have to or just want to.

Sounds like you did a first-class job. You can't stop lightning, but you sure can provide a good path for it to travel. Away from the house and away from your gear! Your ground system sounds like the textbook preferred ground...

This is what I was told to do by a commercial tower installer who also does our local repeater I just wanted double check this Im also a worry freak as far as lightning so coax goes outside forsure when I am home to do it.

I set up a mobile 2 meter antenna on my file cabinet for scanner use or 2 meter use incase of bad storms and I have to disconnect everything outside

Tony, you have things backwards. FIRST you get advice here and THEN you doublecheck it by asking a commercial tower installer.

LMAO!! well I guess that does look a bit idiotic but I was actually wanting to see or hear what others have done to see what my options are before this crazy project this way if I want to ad anything I can as I go nothat its all done and I say the old wish I would have or I could have thing.
