That radio has a 1/4 inch mono headphone jack. Any 1/4 inch stereo headphones with a stereo to mono adapter will work and allow you to hear in both sides. If all you can find is the 1/8 mini type then you need the above adapter and a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter as well unless you are lucky enough to find an adapter that does both. They did make them but they are hard to find.

I would like to purchase a set of earphones for my Realistic DX 160 receiver. Just can't find any in town. Any help would be appreciated. Al

Thank you Friend but I ordered the adapter from China and when it came it only worked on 1 ear, I contacted them and told them I was trying to plug stereo earphones to a mono radio receiver. They sent me a new plug but it's the same. So I thought if I could by the right earphones I would go that way, It may be cheaper in the long run. Thanks again. Al

Sounds like the wrong adapter. My first SW radio was a DX-160 and I used regular 1/4 inch stereo headphones with a stereo to mono adapter and it worked great in BOTH earpieces. I just looked at the schematic to confirm that the headphone jack is indeed a regular 1/4 inch mono jack. A simple 1/4 inch mono to stereo adapter will work. You need the male end that plugs into the radio to have only two contacts commonly called a tip-sleeve connector while the female end needs to have three commonly called stereo or tip-ring-sleeve.

It needs to look like this:

NOT like this.

Thank you friend , that picture you sent what the adapter should look like sure helped. The 2 they sent where the wrong ones but with the picture you sent I found the right one and now all works well. Thanks again for your help. Al.
