Hey look! Amateur Radio is more popular than ever?

Total number of licenses issued only tells part of the story. It's the total number of unique license holders and what class they hold that tells the rest of the dtory. Some people actually hold over a dozen or more call signs and each is considered a separate license. Some folks get greedy for reasons known only to themselves and get multiple csll signs that are similar or hold a dozen club or repeater call signs. Others get a tech license and stay on VHF forever.

maybe i just need to think about it more, but why would someone want/ need more than one callsign?

i just thought this was cool because it was the first thing about radio operators ive seen in my local paper.

It is cool and is proof that dropping the code requirements has increased more licensed amateurs.

CK where? if any, are there one person holding more than one amateur radio license?

If you search the database there are lots. Anyone that owns a repeater or in some cases simply holds the license for a repeater or beacon holds multiple licenses. Looking at QRZ will show many with two or more current licenses. One may be home in Michigan while another is in Florida where he spends the winters. Some use a special callsign only when DXing on VHF.Lots of different reasons. I like my original call I got but may pick up a second one for when I am running AM. The one I am considering has AM as the suffix.

LOL Yeah I change it now and then depending on the mood. Remember the last one?

"Marriage is like a game of cards. At first all you need is two hearts and a diamond. By the end you will wish you had a club and a spade".

I thought it was great but the wife.....well........not so much although she agreed with it as it pertained to the other way around. I used it for a while since we are coming up on our 25'th anniversary later this year. I'll have to use it again in the fall when tbe time is appropriate.

Makes sense on club call signs and repeater call signs but not sure about changing calls for being in different locations in the states. a lot of snow birds here in FL and they keep there 1's and 2's calls when down here in the winter.

A lot keep one call and some have a few. No law against holding multiple call signs. One time a few years ago I saw a listing that had over twenty call signs assigned to the same individual and they all had the same suffix.

I just hit 60. I can't remember one call sign much less several.

I had to read that a couple times. I just got off night shifts this morning and I thought at first you were saying that you just hit 60 call signs to your name and had trouble remembering them.
