Which Diamond mobile dual band antenna has the highest gain, and which Comet Mobile dual band antenna has the highest gain?

The gain is proportional to the length. The highest gain is the comet SBB-7. I have a van so I had to go with the CA-2x4SR.
NCG Company::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Agreed. Just look at the antenna specs and compare the gain figures for yourself. I see another uses the Comet CA-2X4SR. They seem to be pretty popular. I have had mine going on at least a dozen years I think. Good performer in a decent size and more bandwidth than I need to boot. I used to run a Diamond Super Gainer SG-7900A but I got careless and it broke so I went with something a bit shorter.

ok its a debate which one the Comet SBB-7 or CA-2x4SR??:whistle:

I made this cause my cr320a is pisspoor on VHF. So ill just forget using 222 on the mobile. wow@ Comet SBB-7 I am ordering that one, Price seems better then the diamond. i dont understand why you went with the CA-2x4sr if you have a van?

The gain difference is minimal and the bandwidth is greater on the 2X4SR. BTW the SR part of the model number stands for Search and Rescue. The antenna was designed to be broad enough on both bands to allow the operator to operate on the amateur bands as well as above and below the bands on frequencies used by emergency operations. I used mine on the 2m band as well as on 155 MHz public service frequencies a bit where the SWR was still only 2:1. I used to work through provincial grid radio system repeatsre with the input in the 143 MHz range and the outputs in the 149 MHz range with less than 1.5:1. Lots of reasons to choose the 2X4SR.

BTW high gain means the signal stays low to the ground, NOT what you want for working satellites from the mobile or into mountain top repeaters when you are in the shadow of he mountain. Believe it or not the best antenna for mobile satellite use is a simple 1/4 wave as it has lots of high angle radiation which is what you want.

OK, Sat's is for the HT. Not my mobile.

Lets see if i got this right, a higher gain antenna is for low ground radiation while a 1/4 wave antenna is for higher ground radiation?

So, if i am 20mi from a repeater and i am in a hole so to speak my chances of being heard on the repeater is better with a 1/4 over lets say a 5/8 wave?

I had go with the CA-2x4SR because of my full size work van height. I would have loved to get the CSB-790A which actually has a higher gain but is 62" tall! Give us a review later.

Ah. I ordered the sbb-5 from cheapham dot com. Thanks and thank you CK for the help choosing.

Got the Comet SBB-5 Today. All i can say is wow the Craftsman ship seems just as good as Diamond if not better. When I say "better" I mean lighter weight than a diamond. Tho I probably shouldn't compare it to the CR320A, i have and it is IMO 5x better in all aspects, weight, design, length, appearance, function..even the fold over feels "better".
