It won't let me read that without an account. There are few forums I would less like to be involved in than QRZ.com; the amount of anti-CB vitriol and hatred that has been aired on QRZ over the decades is legendary.
I have absolutely nothing against ham radio, and I have many friends who are hams. However, I think it is really unfortunate that some (mostly) older extra class hams are so rude and unwelcoming to newbies.
And people wonder why ham radio is having a hard time attracting new people.

QRZ... Figures. That forum is so messed up lately! Ever since that one moderator took over like he did, it's been almost unusable for free people.
I'd be surprised if the thread you reference isn't deleted by this time tomorrow (ole "UU-Hitler" does that ALL the time, ya know).

I deleted my homepage there, and only log-in every other day or so to check what the "Swapmeet hot list" has listed ---- then I sign right back out. I'm pretty much done with their over-moderated forum until "UU Hitler" quits. He's power-drunk!

I use QRZ just about every day for logging and QSO info. I have posted a couple of things asking a question and the know it all guys pop out of the woodwork to tell you how stupid you are immediately. It's a good site for some things to glen info and to get a laugh or 2 now and then.

Apparently my account on qrz.com has been removed, probably because I'm not a Ham and am only studying to get my license! That's fine, once I get my license I won't be using qrz.com!

EHAM.NET is a 'dynosaur-era' website, yet very good amateur gathering place. It's running an ancient software platform, but it's "REVIEWS" forum is second to none, on just about ANY ham-related item or service. It's database has entries from THREE decades ago!
As such, It's kind of "clunky" by modern benchmarks, but I suspect that's out of necessity, in order to retain it's historic content. I've found myself perusing EHAM.NET every day.

Check out the "ELMERS" room of their forum... The REAL elmers usually treat the noob like any REAL elmer would in-person.

There are lots of unlicensed operators on qrz.com. Accounts are deleted usually only if you are a dick and from the usual dicks there, you have to be a REAL bad dick to get dumped.

Take the reviews on eHam.net with a grain of salt. LOL

I use the Zed all the time for looking up calls when I'm operating. It's very handy for beam heading. I also like knowing the air mile distance which is great especially with vhf/ uhf contacts. I periodically read the stories on the main page and check out the swap. I've never dove into the forums so I can't speak of the dicks that are apparently running the show..

I like to check what actual owners have to say about radio-related stuff before pulling the trigger on it. So If you know of a better online review website with a better review of radio equipment/services, I'd sure like a link to it.

Oh I have used the reviews there too in the past to get a general idea of any faults that may be an issue but as far as general use, most reviews are like travel reviews.........all over the place. Some think it is the greatest thing on earth, while others detest their very existence and wonder why it was ever brought to market. Simply saying that you like it or that this antenna outperformed your last antenna does not really tell much without all the info. There are a few guys that give decent honest reviews but they tend to be the older types that were heavily into electronics repair, commercial broadcast engineers etc. The rest is the old Ford/Chev type arguments.
