late afternoon yesterday, searching for "CB RADIO" on the marketplace... an ad only 16 minutes old popped up showing 2 pictures of a ton of gear (several tubs with mobile radios, antennas, meters) and a small table with several radios on it..... all for $50. I made contact and she said it had to be picked up at her home. She said the first one to tell her that they were "on the way"... locks it. I made sure that was me.
It was an hour and 15 mins away on the other side of town.

Turns out it was a cleanout of her dad's house. None of them are into radio ... and they didn't care. They just needed it gone ... and they picked $50 as the number.

The JC Penny 6247 is a good old radio, worth the $50 alone.

Just got the SAMS for it. Looks like it is PLL02A based great for channel adds. I'll have to see what shape this one is in!!

Have you tried the trc-48 yet? I have a trc-47 that I really like the trc-48 looks the same but with a s meter and more switches.

That's a good haul of stuff !! All REALLY old gear though....... I bet there's not a single radio in that pile that doesn't at least need a good cleaning and a recapping.

If it were I, I would keep the JCP 6247, the SBE Console V, the CDE controls, a couple of the Turner mics, and the coax switches and sell all the rest on a best offer basis.........
Oh I might keep the Johnson 123A as well, a classic for sure !

I had a 6247 as a kid. Modded for locked clarifier and extra channels. Worked well for 20 years, but was certainly not a power house. Even after being 'peaked' it barely made 10 watts even with a power mike. (On AM it actually put about 8-9 watts if you turned the pot up, but then it modulated backwards)

If I do anything at all with that one it will most likely be to "fix it" if it is broke and align it to spec. This is just a fun hobby for me..... gettin' back to my electronic roots!

Have you tried the trc-48 yet? I have a trc-47 that I really like the trc-48 looks the same but with a s meter and more switches.

The 48 is a 23 channel SSB radio. I have not tried it. It did not come with a microphone and (according to the SAMS book) the mic has a remote volume control that works when you punch the "REMOTE" button on the front. It will work with a non-original mic you just can't mash that REMOTE button. At least that is the way I understand it.

But no, I just got it home and stacked it in the garage for now.

BC, that Console V makes my third one. I have my original which has been recapped but I have been to lazy to align it, I have a spare parts radio that a guy sent me just for covering the shipping. I need to pull it in and put it on the bench and see what shape it is in!

As far as the CDE rotor controls, I doubt seriously I will ever have a tower/beam setup so I don't know what I'd do with them. I guess that if I trip over somebody that needs one we would work on that.

I've always liked the Johnson 123 models. A friend had one back in the late 70's early 80s when I worked at the Johnson Space Center down here.

On the mics, I really need to go grab the crate that I put them all in and just kind of go through them and see what all is there. While there are a number of Turners... I was hoping for an JM+2U and there isn't one. There is an MN+2U which is the same mic wired for relay.... but I have a special reason for wanting the JM model. (my father in law that got me into CB way back in 1975 had a Royce 1-600 with a JM+2U on it. In his honor, I have a 1-600 radio but am on the watch for a JM+2U to put on it..... as I say... just in memory of him!). By rough count, I think there are about 10 or 12 microphones.... a bunch of them are Turner power mics. Might clean them up and put decent cords on them... who knows?

At the moment, I am just counting them all as good restoration projects. That is what I am in this "collecting business" for!!!!
