I am generally more concerned with the brightness of the operator than the mic.
Is there anyway to turn the brightness up on the mic ???

A higher wattage bulb should do the trick

if you are concerned about the brightness of the operators, check out 38lsb .
so there is no setting for it, thought so.
Thanks, for the quick responses.
iv been using the radio mostly on 2m and it works pretty good. the mic is a little tinny tho.
I think you'll get different results on HF. Has a lot to do with your voice characteristics as well. My voice is a perfect match for the Heil GM4 but may sound like schitz for someone else.

If you want the best transmit audio out of an IC-7000, here's a suggestion. Set the transmit audio to Wide position, and set the low frequency setting of the Wide position to 100 Hz. Close talk the microphone (one inch away from your lips),and set the microphone gain at about 7% for the average voice. And,if your were thinking about doing a microphone mod to increase the low frequency content, forget it,as this defeats the HM-151's noise canceling capability; something you don't want to do in a mobile scenario.
