HOLY CRAP BATMAN!

If you ever talk to Steve, NB 67 in Austin, that's what he's running. If I remember right the finals have been changed in his to do closer to 500.

C.K.?? I bet that was the best money that fella had ever spent!! I mean to get a whole extra 1<More audio><More audio> WATTS OF HAMMER DOWN POWER!!!
I bet he can talk atleast 2 feet farther with that 5**Jump_im****Jump_im** Watts than he could with that measly low output of 4{Cry_river}{Cry_river} watts that he was running prior to that big ole transistor upgrade

I guess they charge retail for the amp section and retail for the radio section and give no thought as to a reasonable price for combining the two. "Well lest see...? a texas star 400 is $420 and our radio is $269 lets just put it all together and charge $689 for it" *Don`t do it*

That radio already has four 2879 finals stock, I don't know what other "magic" finals a shop would swap in. I bet that radio gets quite warm.

Had a friend of mine that owned one of these... literally drifted 2 kc when in use... it was horrible. Had to chase him all over the place... Terrible design. He was smart tho, and pawned it off about a week later. But hey, it's all about the "flash" and nothing about the performance these days... right?

I've talked to Steve/Needle Bender 67 while he was mobiling in Texas just a couple of weeks ago. Radio wasn't drifting at all; sounded A-OK. For all that work and money he has in it - it better.

Perhaps that cold Iowa air was making it drift?
Like so many Rangers and Galaxy radios, they sure are squirrely when cold.

I think I would rather have the older 4 pill version......I think pills are more rugged than mosfets.....I could be wrong.....actually my. Texas Ranger TRE-966FFC is all chrome and looks just like that....and if you felt you had to...you could hook a 4 pill up to it.

Lol Robb... I'm sure it IS the colder Iowa air... and you'd understand that, I'd reckon. Hence the reason I'll never own another one of those Ranger or Galaxy radios again.

All I know is that for the wimpy heat sink it has, and the heat that just gets pushed around inside the radio, it was awful on drift. My friend got rid of it in short order. He went back to his venerable Phillipines Cobra 148 GTL and a Texas Star DX 500. And he's happy once again.
