I chased around a problem yesterday that was not a problem at all. I even feel like a fool posting this but hopefully I can save someone else some time if they have this problem.

Working on a radio with no covers yesterday and had the extension speaker plugged in. I kept getting talkback and a squeal. It did not happen with the speaker in the cover but as soon as I hooked up the external I would have this problem. If I moved the speaker plug just right the squeal would go away.  I thought the metal ring on the jack was touching the chassis but it was not. After messing with it a while I decided the jack was bad. A, P.I.A. job but I had to do it. I got it all back together and it worked good until I moved the radio. I had the same problem. I replaced all the 102 ceramic disc caps in the microphone socket board even though they were good same problem.

I love this style speaker plug It is very sturdy. Not like the plastic ones you get on e Bay.  The plug has a metal body with a plastic sleeve. The speaker jack on this radio is a bit recessed and the metal part of the jack was grounding on the frame of the radio creating the problem. I made a small washer and no more problem.
