Im going to try to put up my A99 in the next few days and going to put a bauln under it. I'm going to use rg213 coax. How many turns do i need to make? Thanks

I use 5 - 6 turns on a 4.25" former. You don't have to use a former, but it helps me keep the turns side-by-side. For a former I use a 4" PVC drain line coupler.

4 inches is way too small for RG-213. You want to make the coil RADIUS at least 10x the cable's OD. For 213, with an OD of 0.405", that would be a 4 inch RADIUS.

Radius being half the diameter, we're looking at an 8 inch DIAMETER to be on the safe side, especially if you're using significant power or the coax will ever be exposed to hot sunlight day after day.

Thnx, Beetle.

I wont be running lots of power through the coax, only my palomar 225. I live in southern IN, but this summer it was warmer out.

what should i use to hold my rf choke? Have a pvc t come off the tower to a piece of pvc pipe and just zip tie the choke to that? or actually wrap the coax around it? cuz i havnt seen a piece of 8 inch pvc pipe. Anyone have any pics of their set choke? thanks

Drill a couple of holes close enough to the end of the coil and use wire ties.
Done.

Make SURE that this choke doesn't touch the masting. Keep it mounted 3-4 inches away.
