I have the above four radio's and it seems all various write ups and posts and they all seem to be good radios in thier own right so ... Of these ol'e timers:

a) Which is the best AM- or can be made to be the best AM talker?

b) Which is the best recieve on AM?

c) Which is the best SSB- or can be made to be the best SSB talker?

d) Which is the best recieve on SSB?

e) Which is the better all around radio?

Then again the above radios amight be so close the average CB'r would not be able to see a diffference among these radios.I guess I am just courious...

Another way to say it is... "Acccording to your opinion/experience-Rank them from #1 to #4 ..."

if your interest is dx or out of band working.
1. president jackson (silver)
2. president jackson (black)
3. hr2510
4. uniden grant

if your interest is predominately AM and legal cb use,
then the uniden grant wins hands down, neither the jackson or lincoln and its derivatives are high level AM modulated, i'm sure the uniden grant will be.

1. uniden grant
2. president jackson (silver)
3. president jackson (black)
4. hr2510

if i had to choose any of them for general use i'd go with the silver jacko, because AM sucks bigtime, SSB is the future.

Deep down inside I agree with you and find no good reason why our FCC did not phase out AM back in 1976 when we went to 40 ch.

I also understand many don't want to be bothered with SSB since it requires
better radios than the cheap ones being built ....

BTW I OWN A GRANT LT ....

Thanks all... I would have thought the Grant and Silver Jackson would be very close when compared to AM use.

By the way ...
Which came first...
The Grant or the Silver Jackson?

By the way I made a Boo Boo...
Its a President Grant not Uniden Grant if it makes any difference. Although I do have a Uniden Grant.

the grant was originally available in a us 40 am/ssb version, i believe the export grant would have been out just before the jackson seeing as its only 3 bands of 40ch and the jackson with its 5 bands of 40 suggests it came later as manufacturers started to realise how to increase the bandwidth of the export sets.

over here in the uk in the late 70's there was a flood of 40 ch us AM or AM/SSB sets, followed in the early 80's by 80 then 120 ch exports, by the time uk cb was legalised in nov 81 the cobra 148 gtl dx mk2 was king, but the grant export with its dual outputs was becoming very popular too, especially amongst those who still stubbornly used AM despite legislation only allowing FM.

the 5 and 6 band exports arrived a bit later, no doubt when manufacturers realised a few cb'ers were having some joy modifying the standard at the time 120 ch sets to go further, it was a time of very crowded 11m band and the further you moved from the low/mid/high bands the quieter things got.
