Hi Roger,
I have just been given a HR2600 to work on, the original description was that there was a spark from the antenna socket when the coax was plugged in, which immediately made me think about DC at the antenna socket, I was also told that someone else has had a play to try and fix it, they removed the earth connection from the power plug.
Anyway, I scoped the final and driver, the final is definately gone, I also found that some idiot had cut the track where the RF output from the final is routed just before it goes through the SWR bridge PCB, and later bridged the cut with a wire, I suspect this was the cause of the blown final.
Anyway, now I need to hear recommendations about a suitable replacement final, seeing as the MRF477 is no longer around, or too expensive, I have seen posts about using a MRF455, which is an option, but I want to try and keep the costs down for the owner, he seems to have been ripped off a bit when he purchased it.
So if anyone has done any final replacements on a HR2600, HR2510 etc. I want to hear from you about how it went, I am going to try some things with parts I have available here, but would prefer to have a tried and proven substitute.
