I have suffered from severe headaches since a severe concussion in 1974. One day while in the hospital for a MRI test the headache was really bad. A problem was found and surgery done within ten days. NOT cancerous was the lab report received while still in surgery. All was good except for the headache that never goes away.
Recently head was hurting more than normal and I called my Doctor. She said get to the emergency room asap and not to drive my self.

Okay, now I'm puzzled. Called wife to come and get me and take me to the doctor. She was here in record time. Got to the ER and I still do not know why people are freaking out. It seems my speech was slurred like I had been drinking heavily. I sounded fine to me and was not slurred at least from my point of view.
The wife recorded my speech and played it back to me, and sure as hell I sounded like I was loaded. I rarely drink and never to intoxication. I had what was referred to as a Ischemic stroke.
Damn it, Really? Aging is the one thing no body is immune to.

On a follow up visit I asked the Doctor how did I sound slurred to everybody else and normal to myself?
She told me that is why strokes are so deadly. You don't know what it is happening until you fall down and can't get back up, or you wreck your car, or have some other mishap.

I bring this up so you people can be more observant of friends and neighbors. They can be in real trouble and not even know it.

I was lucky to an extent that there is no permanent damage, body is moving okay (Not that it was that good to start with) speech is back to normal.

Glad you are back to normal. Normal can be relative though. Isn't it amazing what the human body can go through and still function. I'm also glad there was no permanent damage. Take it easy, and hope to hear ya on the air someday.

Jeez, normal? What is that? I had been having trouble getting upstairs to my work shop and ham radio shack and wonder if that might have been part the of cause.
What freaks me out is my cholesterol levels are good and better than my Doctor's.
Blood pressure is always good too. They did not find the cause just the after effects so my doctor is guessing a blood clot. But I am feeling better and getting stronger.

Glad to hear you are getting better. A blood clot that gets lodged and then breaks free is usually what causes a TIA aka transient Ischemic attack or what some people call a mini-stroke. You are lucky the cause remedied itself or you probably would not have been around to tell us what happened. Best of luck and take care.

I am lucky indeed. I could not figure out why the wife kept asking me if I was alright.
Apparently she sensed something different or wrong. We know each other very well and finish each others sentences and we say the same things when surprised by a movie or other things like traffic. For a couple days before she asked so often I was getting annoyed with her. I'm glad I kept my manners in place and did not insult or otherwise offend her.
She could have seriously kicked my butt!

I can relate VERY well. My wife and I think alike all the time. She is a registered nurse and you should see the looks I get when I complain about a pain in my chest or something. LOL If I lay on my right side often I get a pain under my shoulder blade that extends out thru my chest. I get the third degree all the time and she gets mad when I make light of it. I guess I should appreciate the fact she gets concerned about it.

I think the ladies just don't want to invest in all of our training and the thought of having to retrain another one to get to where we are now. Just imagine how much money she would have to spend on rolled up news paper!

Bad Hubby, smack, smack! I told you no more projects on the kitchen table! Smack!

I hope you make a quick recovery Tallman. I've never had the same scare but my body has been telling me I'm not 20 years old anymore. It's also complaining about the abuse I've given it for the past 41 years.
You know that any pain or twinge in your body will now be under great speculation and the wife will have much more say in when you go to the doctor. :)
