I know it's late but this is how I spent last summer.

Man,talk about not having time for anything this past summer. The weather was crappy. It only seemed to rain on my days off and that hindered my building of a new storage building for all my stuff. The building is 18X24 feet with a full upstairs for off season storage and my radio junk. The down stairs is for the usual stuff like lawn mowers,4-wheeler,rotary tiller, snowblower etc as well as a bench for projects etc.I have a 7200 watt generator as well and in the spring I am going to upgrade the power wires going out to the barn so I can back feed the generator into the house.I still need to put up some more finish boards and build a door for the end upstairs. It is just covered over for now with chip board. The sheathing is all rough sawn 8 inch boards overlapped 1 inch.It looks like clapboard siding but MUCH stronger. It makes a really nice looking job I thing. The interior has a wood floor.I have heavy metal grills for the windows made of rock crusher screen so nobody can break in through the windows and the door frames and locks have been reinforced with metal plates. When I upgrade the wiring I plan to have ADT Security expand the house system out to protect the barn as well.Power and security lines etc run underground from the house to the barn.I told the wife next year there will be no big projects like this one.It seemed to take forever with the crappy weather and work schedule. In the end I think it turned out pretty well though.

Man oh Man,what a "dog-house" !!! I wish I had one to go and hide in like that.LOL!!!
Looks great. I think you did a fine job myself. Just tell the XYL how much it would have cost to have a professional Carpenter do this for you and maybe she'll appreciate it a
little more??
Now take it easy this coming summer and enjoy yourself!

Thanks guys. It definately took a long while to do. It's the main reason my RCA tx has not been converted to 80m yet, but at long last I can get everything in under one roof and not have to take 5 things out just to get at the one thing I really want..

It's hard to see but the board siding really does overlap like clapboard or wooden shingles do.The corners were fun as I had to trim each board with a handsaw in order to get the angle correct and not mess it up. I tried using a sawzall but the blade was too narrow and wandered too much making a sloppy job and the circular would not fit in the space.I used an air nailer and of the thousands of nails in it I never had an accident. That is until about a month ago when I was installing a bench. Two pieces of 2X4 equals a thickness of 3 inches.I was driving and countersinking 3 1/2 inch nails and forgot where my fingers were on the other side. :headbang Yep,I drove a nail through the wood and into my finger straight to the bone.In a flash my entire arm ached right up to the elbow. :eek:The best part was getting to pick little pieces of wood out of the hole in my finger. Next spring I will finish the outside and put up a few more shelves inside. As for the outside I'm not sure just what I want to do. Part of me wants to paint it and part of me wants to apply a treatment that will weatherproof it and yet allow it to weather naturally and take on that grey old barn board look.I forget the name of the stuff but the local hardware store carries it. It is just a powder that is mixed with water and applied over the wood.I have seen it on a house before and it looks great with an old weather beaten look.My house is a Cape Cod style so an old looking barn would not be out of place with it.

Use 12's or 10s in the future.

Typically, nailer 12Ds are 3", so I always used them for the Bostiches.
