I would like to know what you would want in a DIGITAL SWR POWER METER. A nice big style desk model not the small Aries or Radio Shack style for a base setup. maybe a frequency counter or display generally a digital peak reading power/ swr.

With these things in mind what would be a fair price to you the consumer in todays market? With or without frequency display?

I find that the 'rate' of increase/decrease shown by an analogue meter is as handy as the display of power levels (meter 'swing', if you will). I also find that the relative 'position' of the needle on analogue/mechanical meters means a faster 'read' of that meter, than having to focus on the actual reading. Like glancing at an analogue clock, sort of.
So, having tried using digital meters at various times, I usually find myself going back to the other kind. I'm afraid I wouldn't have any use for a digital meter. Of course that doesn't mean a whole lot, and I certainly am not saying they aren't handy for the right people. I sort of doubt if I'm the only one who isn't one'a them 'right' people.
Good luck!

Ditto....what Doc said.....

actually a legal limit dummy load would be a good idea if not that I was leaning towards a 3-4 position antenna selector and 160-6 meters for a wide range I will forward the ideas thanks to those that responded

Hamer I actually was looking at those and the MFJ Digital meter and thats how I ended up on this topic I had got into a Conversation with a manufacture on another technical question and they ended up explaining to me what they were starting to go over the idea of and that was a digital meter. He asked a bunch of questions about what I run now what I like about them and I told them that they need feed back from others because everyone wants something different.

I dont know what they are going to do but I said I would get some other opinions on what would be wanted in a digital meter and its going to be bropught up infront of the board again what they do is there choice and if they want input Ill help I explained this would be a good site to post it on because we have a mixed crowd some CB some Amateur

I dont want to say who it is its not my place so Ill wait to see what they end up doing. Ita not written in stone but Ill get iodeas from operators and they can do what they want with it. As far as the far fetched statement thats fine everyones entitled to there opinion we know how you feel about it so thanks for adding I believe it was Northstar thats what a forums for (negative and positive) and its always going to be that way I offered to do this so thats what Im, doing.

Who knows with this economy and that also was brought up but if the meter could be made and kept in a reasonable price range (not to give them away) it may workout more power to the manufacture if it dont happen so be it theres other digital meters I have one of the better ones Ill fix the thread so this dont stir a hornets nest that some will jump at I never thought about it but thats exactly whats gonna happen Sorry for any confusion or to anyone this upset in any way

You were looking at the MFJ-826B and it does not meet your needs in some way?

Seems to me it has fair capabilities for a $180 device.

I'll tell you the LP-100A is a much better digital wattmeter, but it'll cost you more.
Its display has a nice bar graph. And its a vector based design, meaning it'll end all the coax length B.S. once and for all. The only way your going to reduce the cost is to build 100,000 of them.
