I just aquired one of these with some other things on a trade and Im not familiar with Icoms products I run mainly Yaesu but also like and own a few Kenwoods. Are these 200 decent radios?? Im not sure if Im going to keep it I traded a pretty much brandnew Galaxy 2527 that I had in the closet since I have one on the bench for when I play on a tuesday night 11 meter net this new one was boxed up sitting.

Im not sure Im going to keep this Icom but fugures Ide see what your thoughts are if any of you are familar with them I could keep it for (another) back up but I am not sure because Ide like a nice dual band mobile eventually for in the second vehicle Im going to look through the manual for this radio I know it works well but Ill try it out for myself.

Hey Tony, I've had one for years along with its predecessor the 2100H. 2200 essentially the same but with an undated mic. Fine 55 watt mobiles, never had any trouble. It's my everyday rig in the truck for 2 meters. Mod is simple, remove 1 diode and you're open all the way 136~174 for MURS and business band freqs (just use an antenna that will tune to other freqs.) Got one several years ago for my step son who is a county firefighter. He received permission to have a radio for his personal vehicle. The 2200H easily programs for the non-standard public safety repeater offsets as well as the PL tones, and he like the alpha/numeric display so he can "name" the channels rather than keep up with what frequency is what. Switchable amber or green display is neat too. I cut down a 5/8 2 meter antenna to match the freqs he needs in 155 mhz. Working great for him.

Good luck

I knew the original owner of this thing and he sold it to another friend who said he wanted his amateur license well I knew that wasnt happening so he never really used it or couldnt used it otherthan turned it on to listen to our local repeater net when we were on Sunday nights but that was it I got the Comet GP-3 base antenna with it along with another alinco dj-v5 HT in the box 2 Tram Mobie antennas and a Kenwood 430 that used to be mine that he had an audio issue with the sent it to Burghardt amatuer and UPS damaged the fan assembly on the back so he said the hell with fixing the audio and burghardt sent it back UPS once again never took care of the claim so he just gave it to me in the deal .
