Bought a Icom IC-706mk2g and would like to know what the difference is other than it having 70cm and 440... i also read it has mosfets.... how can you tell if a 706mk series has been abused?

Good shack in the box rig, I have the 706MKII, not the G version.

How can you tell if it has been abused?

Run it through the paces, use all bands and all modes test for TX and RX.

If you do not have the antenna farm or the meters for HF/VHF/UHF then send it in to a reputable dealer/service center and have it aligned front to back

Did you get it on ebay?
yes.
i tell you the story.
i bought a icom 706 (1st gen) and didnt know there was more then one 706...(lol) so i get it and the ham was dirty the radio had boogers and dried food on it and he packed it ( what i call the worst ) he threw it in a box with stirofoam on top and bottom with the face still attached and power cord and mic threw stirofoam on top and mailed it. ( i surprised it wasn't broken when i got it) so i bought the DSP 106 and i called icom to find out it doesn't work on my radio. so i sold it because i wanted lighted buttons for night time use. + i wanted something with more options and more frequencies. so i just bought the icom 706mk2g off eBay for almost 700$ ( a local ham told me that was too much money ) but i got it with everything.
p.s the first one i had did according to a pep meter 60wdk swing 125W with the radio on high power. with it on low like 1/8th a W swing to 1w.
yes still working on test im also nervous to take the test....
Scofflaw NO i dont plan on using the radio on CB bands iv had it up to here with the CB lingo and trash that goes along with it. on a rare occasion i talk to some CBers who actually have dignity and respect.:glare:

can someone explain to me what the AGC setting is on my 706mk2g? the manual and google doesn't explain it

The AGC (Automatic Gain Control) controls receiver
gain to produce a constant audio output level even
when the received signal strength is varied by fading,
etc. Use AGC slow for normal phone operation; AGC
fast for receiving data and searching for signals.
AGC time constant cannot be changed in FM mode.
.Select M4.
• Push [DISPLAY] 1 or 2 times when S or G is displayed.
• Push [MENU] one or more times to select M4.
.Push [(F-3)AGC] to toggle the AGC time constant
between fast and slow.
• “FAGC” appears when the fast time constant is selected

• “FAGC” appears when the fast time constant is selected
ALWAYS appears .... if you want i can make a video short one showing that it only says fAGC no matter if its in 440/2m/ or HF bands.
