:I have just been given an icom m700 radio without the power cables,is it possable to wire this to a car battery to recieve messages ,if so could anybody let me know how it can be done.

If you can't find a connector to match and can't figure out which pins are positive and ground just by looking at the outside, you're going to have to take the cover off and look at the inside of the connector. It should be pretty obvious. You could cut or pull those wires and extend them to the outside somehow. One way would be to just remove the stock connector and use the same hole already in the radio. I've attached the user manual for that radio, too.

What kind of messages do you want to receive? You do know that the M700 is an HF marine radio and does not cover the ham bands don't you? It will receive on them but will not transmit on them. Nice score BTW. I wish someone would give me a $1200 + + radio.
