This goes for most HF rigs and high power radios. I see people flipout because they only see 70 to 80 watts out on their radio when indeed it does 100 watts. Without a peak reading meter you will not see the truth and when you turn that radio up to 100 watts inside with the VR chances are you are beating the radio and running it hard because you are now doing about 150 watts true PEP.

This guy explains and shows it so ANYONE can understand and get a grip on it!!

How to measure SSB power output properly on a TS590 - YouTube

My 590 has issues with ALC pumping. I've also noticed less than full output on CW (which is where I spend most of my time). I don't need a peak meter for measuring CW output. I will be sending it in for service before my warranty is up, which is soon.

There are to many reports from knowledgeable 590 owners that report low output. And yes, they aren't stupid as this guy suggests.

Lil, yes That is a good meter and M4 I understand that some radios have issues and was not aiming this straight at the TS-590 that wasnt my concern because I dont own a TS-590. The purpose of this was to help or share this with those that do not understand this about peak reading.

I own several peak reading meters but pretty much am just concerned about my average power after I get that set Ill then look with a True Peak reading meter to see whats happening with the radio output and then with the amplifier.

Once I see what those to PEP readings are I dont have to have True Active Peak Reading meter inline because Ive already seen what I needed to and Im not a meter watcher where I got to see see that needle swinging around. a True Peak reading is just nice to know.
