Can someone tell me if it is worth the time and money to buy the GPK kit for the Imax 2000? Some say it will help your RX and others say different. If it will help me hearing distant stations I am willing to give it a try. All the adds say that it will lower your angle of radiation, is this true? Any advice will be help. Thanks in advance.

You might try adding some ground radials. The more the better. When mobile,Have you ever noticed when driving over water(on a bridge ) or crossing RR tracks your reception improves? Same principle. Check here for some insight. www.bencher.com/pdfs/00361ZZV.pdf

Hello Sparkplug 549:

Adding on say four ground plane radials may help.

I would use or (at least try) 4 each fiberglass whip antennas, say 102 or 96 inch long ones. Mounted right at the base of the vertical element, mounter straight and level with the ground. This will be more effective for a lower elevation or take off angle.

You will need to have a local field strength meter to see any difference. It is suggested that you compare the field strength with another antenna and have a local station watch for the same field strength comparisons.

We have discussed this many times. It is possible that the antennas matching circuit may not tune the antenna with the added capacitance that the 4 ground plane radials will add. I just don't know. But would be neat to find out!

I know for a 1/4 wavelength ground plane antenna, you will need a matching circuit with 4 ground plane radials, that are mounted straight and level. This is why most all 1/4 wl gp antennas have the ground plane radials mounted at a angle, pointing down. Again as the ground plane radials installed straight and level add significant capacitance to the antenna.

Please let us know what happens. Its always neat to get antenna testing feedback.
