I want to get my grandfather a home base cb but have no clue about them. He is currently home bound due to illness and is really missing all his buddies out on the road. Does anyone have any recommendations?

There may be new base staion radios being mae - but I'm not aware of who makes them.

I use a nice mobile radio and a 12v power supply, antenna, and coax. Works for me - very well I might add. I would get a Cobra 148GTL or a nice new Galaxy mobile radio - either one would be more than adequate. Total cost (antenna, coax, radio, power supply) should be around ~$300 as suggested. You can do it for cheaper - depending on what you choose!

radio: galaxy 979 $160. antenna: antron 99 with GPK $88. power supply: radio shack 3 amp $25. coax: X amount of rg-8x. this would make a very nice setup for anyone. if you do go with the radio shack 3amp supply, make sure it has the green dot on the bottom. that means it has been back to radio shack for the upgrades. they were recalled at one time. mine has been sent back and has never given me any trouble.

There are so many radios you can use..

Whether a TRUE base radio
or a mobile used with a power supply..

Are you looking to stay only within the 40 channels of "legal" cb..
Do you want a radio with SSB..

There are so so many ways to go with this..
Cobra,Galaxy,Ranger and the list goes on and on.

What will you use for an antenna ?
