this handheld cb appears to be programmable by country, and depending on the country its programmed it can do AM or FM.

I know CEPT is all FM, but some countries use AM, and I cant find info for those countries because I am too lazy to look it up, execpt
POLAND, uses basically the same frequencies we do, and these radios are for poland!

INTEK H-520 AM/FM UK & EUROPEAN HANDHELD CB H520 on eBay (end time 02-Jul-10 11:33:31 BST)

here is a whole page of multi region radios

CB radios

Some of these cover from 26.965 to 27.995, do am and fm, and even have hi-lo power switch, perfect for feeding a linear. Only lame thing I found is they only do 4 watts, and none do ssb.

So whats the catch, how come nobody here in the states is using such radios.

btw, most of these have state of the art features like speech processors, etc. With a price tag from between the equivalent of $80 on up to about $160 plus shipping of course

In must european countries we can use Multi/Norm radios.

France and Spain use AM in most european countries AM and SSB is also legal.
These radios also do the poland channels 26.960 - 27.400 MHz, The 80 German Channels 26.565 - 27.405 MHz and the 80 UK channels CEPT + 26.60125 - 27.99125 MHz must countries only the cept (FFC) channels are allowed with just a push off a button we can use the 40 extra german channels witch is illegal on a legal radio.

Must of these models can be modded for 400 channels. Some can be modded for 10W.

TTI and Intek make export versions of these radios with extra power ofcourse these radio's are illegal in europe. But it isn't illigal to own, sell or buy them:thumbup:

Sorry for my bad english:wink:

Why don't you see any in the USA? Primarily because they are not legal here. All that so called 'state of the art' thingys are old-hat. Might be 'state of the art' in Europe, but not here, sorry.
I've got to admit they certainly aren't the same old style as most of the CB radios sold here, that part i think is nice.
As for FM? Why would you want it? It doesn't have the range as AM does, and certainly not the range of SSB.
Forget all of the above and tell me how you'd get one imported? That'd be a real trick.

we have the radios pictured here in the uk, i doubt you would like them compared to exports unless your preferance for looks and fancy functions is much more important than how it performs :),

in a typical multimode cb, fm has at least the range that am does, often with better audio fidelity and less interference to tv's/pc speakers ect, works great in skip too,
the downside is fm is extremely hard on amplifiers and power supplys compared to big swinging am, its hard on the ears between keys too unless you squelch up.

simple, find one on ebay like any other import radio

You ain't missing much, they are all piles of shit made by maxon in korea.stick with uniden/ranger rci made radios you won't go far wrong.

As for FM not having the range of AM,nonsense,as Bob correctly says FM is Comparable in range to AM and has a few advantages besides, not least a lot less rfi due to it not being amplitude modulated, the biggest drawback is the heterodyne hiss between overs if squelch is open as bob also said.It also has another cool advantage which is the capture effect, which stops @ssholes with slighly lower signals than the person your talking too keying the mike to interfere with your conversation,as on FM the strongest signal wins.

A big thanks, my grandpa had a maxxon, it broke after a year of occasional use in his truck and i ended up trying to fix it, and once i took the cover off, thats when i realized what kind of radio maxxon was, the solder joints looked like a 8 year old chinese kid had made them, being held against his will, and they broke upon touching the wires, but thats not why i gave up, it had to do with the front panel, please dont ask.
thanks again for the heads up. maxxon is junk.
