Internet search engine Google has reconfigured their home page for April 27 to honor the 218th birthday of Morse code creator Samuel F. B. Morse (April 27, 1791-April 2, 1872). Morse, a native of Charlestown, Massachusetts, conceived the basic idea of an electromagnetic telegraph in 1832. Experiments with various kinds of electrical instruments and codes resulted in a demonstration of a working telegraph set in 1836 and introduction of the circuit relay, making transmission possible over any distance. With his creation with Alfred Vail of the American Morse code, the historic message "What hath God wrought?" was successfully sent from Washington to Baltimore.
