Ask any good tech this question and he can give you the long list of cheaper parts or missing parts in the newer version of the radio. The older radio's are hands down better.


As an example, in the newer version they either went to one voltage regulator or a smaller cheaper one. This is why after a peak and tune the new one suck$ on SSB. It can't keep up so the audio warbles and sounds poor.


The only way a new one would be worth a hoot is if say you had DTB go through the whole radio and replace or upgrade all the cheap azzz parts to make it right.
