do they make a detachable face plate cb, like the big ham rigs??? I have looked and looked, and the closest i can find is a uniden uho 15sx, but it is sol in austrlia and i think its 144mhz but that must be thier cb freq??????

Remote face radios

Just as an FYI, the CB bands down here in OZ are the normal USA style 27Mhz bandplan (very quiet, lucky to find 2 channels in use at peak time) and also 477Mhz FM (which the Uniden would have been one, there are also GME models with remote heads).

I'm surprised there are not more remote head 27Mhz radios, seem to me there would be a market for them in todays cars..
As you have noticed, remote head radios are becoming the norm in Ham kit.
Or do you guys in the USA all buy huge vehicles with enough room and a non-plastic area to screw in a mounting bracket or two?

there was an am/fm/ssb radio sold in europe under different brandnames such as dirland and midland,
the middle lcd display portion of the front unclipped for security,
i dont remember any exact names and numbers or if they are still available.

I was looking around for the 706 ham radio but, there seems to be no cb shops in nj, justin is closing down, and i would have no clue how to get it coverted over for cb. plus they are expensive radios, the cheapest i found a used one for was 499.00

i will keep looking

I have a Nissan Sentra (very small) with a Cobra 150 mounted on the glove box door with a Wilson magmount on the top !

well...

there are places in NJ
I use KJI electronics (where i buy all my ham gear)

However
typiclly most 706 MKIIG on the market are already moded
for those that are not..
the 11 meter mod takes all of 1 minute

I can tell you both my 706 MKIIG and IC-7000
destry any posible CB (Period)

King, if u could pass on the contact info for KJI, It would help me alot. I need a rci2950dx looked at. And any info on how to convert a 706mkIIg would be helpfull if I can ever afford one.

Thanks.

505NJ, for any mods to just about any radio out there, have a look at http://www.mods.dk.
Also there are heaps of sites specific to the 706, like http://www.dxzone.com/cgi-bin/dir/jump2.cgi?ID=11863

You could probably pick up an older ICOM 706 a bit cheaper (not MKII) which would do the job. Also radios like the Yaesu FT857D or FT100 are similar..
These like the ICOM are probably overkill for your situation, but as KingCobra said, they leave any "export" radio for dead.
