Hi guys. This is a 2-part post. Sorry for the length but I like to supply all details so you don't have to ask any questions and everything is covered.
I repair and refurbish D104's all the time and take in used mics and parts continuously. I recently took in a very nice Night Eagle Head that had a very decent Golden Eagle Backplate on it. …..that combo looks really good !! But it also came with all chrome screws on front & back. It would certainly look best with a set of all brass head screws off of a Night Eagle to keep it all Black/Brass/Gold. - It has an excellent MC 320 cartridge inside that is 100% strength, loud clean and clear with great tone …. works like it should.
The Gold backplate is not perfect, it does have a few marks and very fine light scratches but no bad pitting or anything like you commonly see and a very bright shine. Considering the 1976 vintage of this piece I am rating it a 8.8 out of 10. - The problem with the Golden Eagles was that they were made with a thin layer of 18K electroplate. And if you didn't handle them with kid gloves and keep your oily fingerprints constantly and gently cleaned off …. they would just scratch and pit like crazy and I'm sure you've all seen so many of these mics for sale that just looked like crap from this poor treatment. …. I say all this to point out how surprised I was to come across this backplate in such decent shape.
SO …. I am looking to buy or trade for a set of 8 Short Brass D104 Head Screws off of a Night Eagle to go onto this head. I will buy, or have many D104 parts to trade, including excellent MC320 elements.
OR … I will sell this Head as is with the Chrome Screws for $75 shipped
I take & Send Paypal GIFT. If no one wants here, will be off to ebay in about a week.
