If you don't mind a little work to get it on the air contact Warren VO1KS on this site for more details. A full kilowatt on 6m with a cheap 50 volt server power supply and a change over relay setup.

Yes CK, I have been following that info for quite awhile now. Warren has even offered a couple of ready made conversions for sale. That 50v supply thing is what has stopped me from thinking in that direction plus the only basic solid state experience I posses has made me leery also. I am old school glass amps. I have very limited "hands-on" with solid state design, so that's my hesitation.
I am of the school if I can't work on it then best leave it for others, plus I am an old dog new tricks don't come easy.:D
I have 99% of the parts to put together a pair of GI7BT's for 6 meters. However like you the work load, and Summer duties has brought my project time to a screeching halt the last 6 weeks!:crying:
This looks to be the E skip and maybe F2 (I think) season us magic banders have been waiting eons for. I am stuck at 100 watts:pop:
Maybe Dayton in about 6 weeks will yield something...A good AL80 conversion is right up my alley:D
Half a gallon and a nice outboard pre-amp is all I think I will need. I do pretty well with that LFA at 45ft. Not first mind you, but a good screamer and 120w from the FT-950 and they will get to me when the band is open nicely.
Just heard another production truck pull in...Setting power for Alabama and Sara Evans concert next week so better get back to it

I completely understand the apprehension when it comes to solid-state stuff like that. I am lucky in that I had some experience running similar gear commercially and I also have several spare MRF-151G MOSFETS on hand just in case. Tube amps have merit as well. I have only ever had 100 watts on HF/6m and used to do fairly well with the six element home brew 6m yagi at 42 feet. By the end of the Es season this year I should have 1000 watts and the same yagi but at about 72 feet.

And I'm almost willing to bet that you will treasure the 100 watt contacts more.

The amp will only be used when there is a pile up or some REALLY good long haul stuff is happening. With it being nearly instant on (the bias ramps up over a few seconds) I can afford to wait that extra 3 or 4 seconds of "warm up" time. :thumbup1:
