No 6240A in the Sams, and its been many years since I had one. I believe there was a clarifier mod, and a basic tune in one of the early SCB books, think volume #1?

Most likely the same radio, here is the 3 pages of alignment procedures for the 981-6240

Again, no Scanner so they are pictures taken with my so-so digital camera, should be of sufficient quality to work from...

Still looking for that scanner

I had one of these back in 1975 lol. When i was 13 years old. Dam now that i think about it that was a long time ago.Weasel i have only lived here for the last 5 years not sure were that is? I am from frederick md. Hope you got my email misterfatty the radio is on it's way.

Yeah no problem CBK. The off frequency thing is best realigned by a technician at a shop.

Those places I mentioned is a commercial printing company business. I am laid off from a different branch of the same company.

Yes I got the message, thanks, meant to fire you off a reply, just forgot

I would disagree with sending this off to a tech, it is a perfect candidate for learning radio. Even if you don't have a frequency counter, as long as you have a known on freq SSB radio you can get it close enough. Granted it is nice to have the test equipment, but why spend the cash if you don't need to...
If that radio has had a Slide mod done to it, probably why you cannot bring it back on freq. go up a channel and try tuning the clarifier to the lower channel, won't work on the RC channels of course.. Its not pretty but I think the Majority of radios done back in the day were done by Secret CB yielding "Techs"

I don't no of any printing company. I was thinking misterfatty Couldn't i just use another ssb/am radio to align the trans and rec on the pinto? By using the the meter on the other radio to align the trans on the pinto. And by keying the mic on the other to align the rec on the pinto. lol. Wonder who made the jcpenny line?

Well thats that LMAO!! I knew there had to be a mistake on your typing the model number it wasnt making sense to any of my books or computer programs!!! Well heres one bit of info I pulled from a book here. This is for the 981-6240 and 981-6241......... AM - R212 / SSB - R213

Well I think everyone knows its much better to use the proper test equipment, but in a pinch, yes you can just use another SSB radio, If you have a good ear you can get it very close, hell who wants to pay a tech more then what the radio is worth. That is actually A pretty nice old radio, not sure who made it, JCP had a few different manufacturers over the years, Cybernet was one, I think Uniden did a few of there 40 channels as well.
