Growing up in Las Vegas, I saw some pretty good sandstorms.  Once, my mom sent me to the drugstore, which was only about 3 blocks away.  I bought whatever it was she needed and stopped by the door to look at the latest issue of MAD  and when I looked up again, I couldn't see across the street!  I literally walked all the way home, feeling my way.  Had to keep my eyes closed and use a big red bandanna as a nose filter.  Other than that, no problem.  About five minutes after I got home: blue skies and all the other signs of a typical Vegas summer day.  Dad and I "warsht" the cars the next day.

Yep. A while later I moved to "Warshington."

Phoenix has had a brutal summer so far, and it isn't even a week yet.  118° a couple days ago.  That tops the hottest Vegas day I can remember: 114°.
