Hello all, i am getting this antenna, and i wanted to se what yall thought of it! Do you thinkj it will perform well? And i was looking at how the flat side was, and the radials are kind of down instead of strait out, will this effect anything? Let me know what yall think.

well, being a conservative, i kind of think 8 elements is overkill. it seems to me that it's basically a modified yagi. maybe to make it look more like a "Killer," lol. Lots of elements, a lot of the time I don't think all those elements are worth the trouble, plus they make the price go up. it will perform well for you, but It's a bit too much for my standards.

P.S. those elements strait down shouldn't effect anything. i suppose that theory they used with that is that it would expend more energy on the horizon with that design, rather than wasting it at high angles.

Hello 211 in the Mag (CDX401):

The 8 element Jo Gunn is one of the biggest beam antennas out there. Jo Gunn uses a shorter Boom length as some other beams but works just fine. And they use good materials, it should last a life time.

If your gonna play your sure as heck gonna PAY. So my suggestion is to install the 8 element beam on a good tower, not a small light weight one. A tower that would allow a larger Heavy Duty Rotor to be mounted inside its caged area, and the use of a Trust Bearning is greatly suggested with a heavy walled (1/4 inch wall thickness) Mast pipe such as 2 or 3 inch OD Aluminum Tubing, 6061-T6. Its far cheaper in the long run to have it up and installed right, then to install it on cheap equipement, and then have to do again later when something falls apart.

Send me the assembly instructions (copies) and I can make you a "Beta Matching" Driven element to replace the orginal Gamma Matching Rod, and driven element. Just like on the Crusader Yagi Beam Antennas.

Well, if you are not causeing any trouble with them with the 3, then the 5 should work out well. As long as everything is setup right and the right grounding is used, you will be in good shape.

i assembled mine on the ground about 8 feet and then i tuned it in the air. The antenna worked very well, but it dont work like they state it does, LOL, LOTS of wind load.

Well since you already bought it...good luck on it
It should do ok..

Had it been my money (ofcourse do not know if you bought it new or used) i would have bought jay's 7 element

but to go to such a large antenna then i would go instead to a steppir beam

let us know how it goes

that beam will need a lot of space

hello to all on the forum,I can't speak on how they perform but I have a freind that lives in S Carolina that has the 6 element star and it has stood up to the outer bands of 2 hurricanes, they did not take direct hits but they were in 90-100+ mph winds for hours at a time, the first one broke the casting on a ham 2 rotor and sheered of the bolts on the mounting plate inside the tower,I have some pics showing the houses without roofs and trees uprooted and there stands his 6 element intact,so I guess you can say that they are well built.
