Just Got A Free Realistic Dx300. A Few Questions

So i went over to see my dad and stepmom in Kansas and he had an old Realistic dx300

He says he was using it last month... but it has a small issue

The display on the preselector will not rotate all the way down...

Also i can not seem to recieve anything but some local am stations. Not even WWV

However after hooking up a wire to the long wire connection(that is what the manual calls it)

I can just barely get WWV

7Mhz or lower gets wiped out pretty easy by local broadcast stations most of them appearing to be VERY wide... I was able to get a nice clean signal near 14.308 and get some CW further down in the band...

So what if anything can I do to make this little rig a little better?

I also hear this rig does not use an IF filter...could that explain the local stations over loading it so easily ?

well I got the preselector working alright, its a little buggers but it has full range of movement,

however anything above 25MHZ is pretty well dead, can not hear ANYTHING just really quite static

I talked to my dad about it and he said it 'didn't have it's ears on' when it came to the CB band... and higher, but he always thought it was just his crappy antenna

the good new is the radio
I amreceive above 25MHz... the bad news is it is dead...

I tested the radio at 1.9Mhz by placing the MFJ-259b (with a 4" piece of copper wire) near it and tuning it to match the MFJ, got around s9 + 10

then again same result at 3.9Mhz

a little less on 7.2Mhz

even less signal at 10Mhz

14Mhz around s5

21Mhz still around s5

28Mhz barely s2, but it was on frequency

so hey it's a start

Maybe a good alignment and possibly a recap will wake this thing up?

it's like there is just not enough adjustment on the preselctor tune, I have to go all the way to the 12-30 Preselector band and all the way counter clockwise on the Preselector just to tune around 25Mhz.. there is no more adjustment for 11m or 10m

any ideas on this?
