K 40 speech processor mic.

Anyone know much about this mic? The directions mention soldering in a diode and resistor inline with the red TX wire... Why is this needed?
 

I seened that. Im just wanting to know what the real purpose of the diode resistor combo is really for??? Mic seems to work fine without it.

I have mine wired into my Galaxy 959 without the diode and resistor and it works just fine. There are different types of radios when the K40 came out and it might be for a certain setup.
 
Right now its wired to an old Midland 40 CH SSB mobile.. Seems to give the radio a bit of a boost in the audio department.

Sorry i dont own a smart phone. I have a Cricket pay go... My credit is too bad to have a contract phone.
 
I wish i could get a better phone buy my credit is so F'ed up from a divorce and several reposessions that i doubt it will ever get better for me, LOL. Oh well life goes on..

Anyways, this K 40 i have seems to work ok on my Midland 78-893.
