Water might be seeping into the coil somehow. Take a look at it and see if you can figure out where, but start at the stud that connects the stinger to the coil. Maybe try some silicone around that joint? You might also have an issue with the connector on the coax where water is seeping into the coax. Same deal there: you'll have to take it apart and inspect it. You can also use rtv silicone around the coax jacket to seal it off. Don't get the silicone all over the coax center and shield where it connects to the antenna, though.
well the first thing to do would be to stop the rain from entering your antenna.
Heres a cut away of a k 40, I could not find a k 30 cut away but this will do since they are similar in design, the only possible way for moisture to enter this antenna is through the opening were the whip is attached or where the coil base screws onto the magnet base if so equipped.
You will need to first dry the antenna out by lying it out in the direct sun, you can seal the whip section with silicone sealant and the whip can be sealed by (this will make it so you will not have to retune the antenna) purchasing some noalox and applying it very liberally to the hole where the whip attachesand some on the whip also then slide the whip back to the mark you made previously and you're set.
No..the problem isnt water in the antenna..the problem happens when water gets umder the antenna magnet..when i dry it off under the magnet the swrs are fine..i have a k40 also but when rain gets under it,no problem..why is there a problem with the k30 ?
