This radio was damaged in a shipping incedent Last year when it was shipped to burghardt amateur by a friend for this very same audio issue. It is crazy trashy sounding when any drive is applied On AM or when power is applied through SSB.

I tried everything fom microphones to very low drive power / output Anyone have any ideas where to start?? Everything else works including the proccessor. The recieve is beautiful and I just need to get this audio starightened out and this would make a wonderful radio for someone.

Ill keep pecking away at it and if anyone has any Ideas on fixing it please do share. This audio is super raspy and overdone I wont dare take it to 75 meters and even attempt using it and ask for help because Im sure the boys would come all unglued.

Sounds almost like someone has been inside of it and maxed out the audio in the cans. If it's been turned up to much, it'll be uncontrollable on the front panel. The audio regulator might be shorted wide open also. either one could cause your problem.

im gonna get a service manual so I can find the VR's I need to check in this thing I might have one I have to look through my file cabinet and disc box

Dunno about the 430 but on the 440 it is very common to have the mic gain pot on the front of the rig fail. When they fail the gain can be wide open.

If it was a CB or 10 meter radio; I would say that someone turned the ALC too high to impress their friends. As well as the modulation/AMC for AM.
Just guessing...

I was a mint radio when it was mine it was spotless and flawless I sold it and from what I was told the guy that I sold it to said a power supply failed and sent voltage through the radio.
He then decided after talking to a CB shop guy that he should send it to B&B radio repair in Illinois they had the radio for 8 months and did nothing telling my buddy that the guy that started working on it hasnt been showing up for work.

After anOther month or 2 they called and said it was done my buddy payed I believe $200.00 for the repair bill and shipping. The radio arrived he hooked it up pressed power and all was graet he was so happy thats was until he keyed it and spoke into the mic and it had this sound off plain trash he also noticed power was half what it did before 40-50 watts is what its doing.

Thats when I told him to ship it to Burghardt Amateur Center in Watertown South Dakota I also advised him to not use UPS as he remembered himself what happen to my Yaesu FT-767 I had all redone that was flattened in shipping and was never settled through UPS he packed the hell out of the radio and shipped it UPS anyways and took 2 different insurances that were offered through UPS.

Guess what happened as I statedc at the beginning of this thread it was damaged and never settled I got tyhe radio got everything up to snuff all is great its on frequency and all buttons lights work you would never know it was damaged after a few hours work otherthan the platsic fan housing on the rear of the radio is cracked up a bit but fan works now and all is ok.

I would like to get it working all the way as I said it would make a nice second radio or beginner radio for someone and it still looks nice for the most part. Either Im gonna send it out or just trade it off to someone that wants to have it alligned or whatever it needs this thing like most kenwoods I own or have owned has OUTSTANDING RECEIVE ITS JUST A SHAME BECAUSE EVERYTHING ELSE IS GOOD!!

Circuit Improvements for the TS-430S by dxzone.com

Might be worth checking into...could be due to being bounced around during shipping.
Might also be possible the Tech jacked with the ALC circuit...service manual does provide proper adjustment range. Hope this helps. I had a TS-440 with similar issue turned out to be a VCO/PLL issue.
Good Luck
All the Best
