Bought a TS-480 HX and now need a bigger amperage power supply. I do not like the idea of running 2 separate power supplies like the Kenwood manual suggests.

I have been leaning towards buying a Astron RS-70A. I know for a few more dollars I can get the Astron RS-70M with the meters also.
The meters are not a big importance to me although they would look more attractive compared to the standard RS-70A on my desk.

Then I ran across this type of power supply.
100 Amp Power Supply CB Ham Radio Linear Amplifier 12 13 8 Volts Battery Charger | eBay
Now this power supply as its called has a much higher amperage and the cost is much lower than the Astron. I have no need to use this as a battery charger and I would never bring a car battery into my house anyhow.

Has anyone used a power supply like the 100 amp one I listed?
I worry that this type of power supply would not be shielded well enough or at all?
I also worry that this power supply may damage my $1000.00 HF transceiver with voltage spikes or amperage inconsistency.

I see Gigi Parts has the best price with free shipping on a new Astron RS-70A or the meter model.
The cost is not my main factor in which supply to buy. I want one that will work the best for my Hf transceiver.
I also want this to be my last power supply I ever buy.

That 'epower' power supply sounds like it should work fine. That's a 'guess' because I know nothing about them, only what I've seen here. Your worries about it are also legitimate, I would have them too. You might try contacting the manufacturer for the specs.

Contacted the seller for more info.
I do see he sells many of them and has 100% seller rating based on his feedback.
A 100 amp ps would be nice to have for that price.

My personal preference, and it is just that, MY preference, is that I would gp with the Astron supply simply because it is a proven performer and is built for communications systems in mind, I just don't like the idea of power supply/battery charger combos. Batteries generally take a different method of voltage and current application than electronic gear likes to see.As for the meter option....get it. It is quite handy to be able to monitor voltage and current as it is usually the first indicator that something is awry. I made a voltage and current meter bridge to monitor my meterless Tripp-Lite PR-40a.

My preferences: Astron- Diawa - Sola...all good quality IMO
All the Best

I use a pyramid ps52k. It runs it with no voltage sag and according to the meter it has about 12 amps to spare

Ive run my 480HX on my astron RS70M for almost two years
now....

and the backup radio
and the vhf radio
and the LDG 1000

have not shut the astron off for over 3 years

Knowing how much AC ripple the supply has under load is important to know. The ebay supply does not specify ripple. Go for the Astron.
